Ocean:Skies:City

I’ve been posting recordings of some of my compositions on YouTube lately. I’m thrilled that Ensemble Meitarim has recorded Ocean:Skies:City, my suite for flute, violin, and piano.

I pictured the ocean here, not from the safety of the beach, but from the perspective of a boat or ship far from shore, surrounded by waves, with nothing but sky on the horizon.

Skies was inspired by the wide-open skies I viewed as a child out west. The violin melody that begins about two minutes into the movement is expansive and flowing.

City is humorous and varied — jazz-influenced and melodic by turns.

I had a lot of fun writing this suite, and Ensemble Meitarim did a great job performing it. Thanks to Nick Pinchuk for recording/editing the videos. If you listen, I’d love to know which is your favourite movement and why!
